Membership Meeting:

Club officers present: Dave Eggler (treasure), Marty Mazur (communications director), Marty Klanchar (memberships), Erika Christiansen (secretary/archivist). Others present: Jake Clements and family, Cheryl Keller Capone, Tara Murray, Dave DeGroote, Rev. Carl Miller, John Icleand, Paula and Tom Jech, Katrina D'Anca. Please welcome a new member, Mark Burns.

The officers opened up the pre-meeting with some official business, but most importantly how many pitchers of water and beer would need for the meeting - HA! Members came early, so the meeting began.

Martyl Klanchar spoke about switching our membership over to iamATHLETE.com on October 3rd, 2018. He will send out an official email to the NVRC when things are finalized.

Marty also brought up the Indoor Mile series which will be in conjunction with the Penn State Indoor track meets. He is suggesting there be an older age group added. 40-49, 50-59, 60+. The schedule will be posted for the Indoor Mile series soon.

Marty Mazur spoke briefly about the club's next race, The Tussey mOUnTaiNBACK. There will be a pre-race dinner on Saturday October 6th where Keely Henninger and George Etzweller will be the featured speakers at Toftrees Golf and Resort Hotel.

Dave DeGroote is running Tussey tomorrow and and is raising money for the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. He handed out bracelets (as seen above) for members to wear and have more details about his fundraising.

Dave's Dad has Parkinson's and as Dave turned 60 this year he was looking for something different. He decided to raise money for the Foundation by running a 60M race and a 60K race.  Tomorrow Dave will be adding 10M beforehand (he welcomes anyone who wants to join him in a *very* early warmup!).

The NVRC is looking to replace our former race director, Jake Clements, for the Arts Festival races. If you should know of anyone or are interested please contact a club officer soon. The University is pricing people out and restricting routes for upcoming races. The officers and members discussed moving the 10k to Big Hollow Road. Marty Mazur said there is a gate that is always closed and he has agreed to run the route to see if the gate is actually open or closed. This would affect the possible move of the 10k. More details to be shared after Marty investigates.

Tara Murray spoke about Give 'EM 5 Run for Veterans. This is an NVRC race held every year in Bellefonte around Veterans Day. We offer a 5 mile run and a 5K run/walk on rolling hills around the Bellefonte Area Middle School. As always, we will have overall and age group awards, and special awards for the top veterans in each distance. The Boy Scouts will provide post-race refreshments. Proceeds help local veterans in need through the Veterans Assistance Fund.

Early registration for the Give 'Em 5! Run for Veterans (Oct. 28, 1pm, Bellefonte Area Middle School) closes Oct. 16. Go to http://imathlete.com/events/GiveEm5 to learn more about the race and register.
Katrina D'Anca gave us some updates on the Nittany Valley Half Marathon, which is held Sunday December 2nd. As of the NVRC meeting there are a total of 260 runners signed up. This 405% increase from last year at this time! Instead of one volunteer coordinator there are now three. Monica Mohoney for bib pick up and race day headquarters, Erika Christiansen for runner hydration and nutrition stations, Bob Erhmann for course marshal and bikers.
