Minutes of the December 2nd 2018 Meeting of the NVRC
Club officers present: Bob Shafer (president), Marty Mazur (communications director), Dave Eggler (treasurer) Marty Klanchar (membership director), Erika Christiansen (secretary/archivist). Others present: Cheryl Keller Capone and family, Jake Clements and family.
The officers agreed to donate for the Miles for Smiles which benefits THON and the Club Cross Country team. The officers discussed the on going situation with allowing the club access to the Multi-sport facility. Marty klanchar has requested every Thursday from noon – 1:00 pm for the club to have access for the lunch time track runs. Paper work has been submitted to the Athletics department and they will respond once they have looked over our application and paper work.

The club discussed the up coming board of elections.
The positions are:
President - makes executive decisions about the club
Secretary/Archivist - takes notes at the meetings and keeps track of action items and major events and announcements
Treasurer - manages the club money
Communications Director - talks to everyone in and out of the club about all the great things we do
Membership Director - manages membership status of everyone, including names, emails, addresses, and dues
All the officers have accepted to continue with their positions. Jake Clements has sent out an email inquiring if anyone would like to put their name in for a position, to email Jake. Jake will then send out an email with the candidates for all to vote. The club is really looking for an important role to be fulfilled. This is the Race Director for the Arts Festival races in July. If you are interested please share with Jake or Marty Mazur.
The officers and club discussed there is a new proposed route for the Arts Fest races. Marty Mazur is creating a 10k course and will share with the club after the Holiday break.
Marty Mazur and Bob Shafer spoke about what nights they were going to hold the holiday lights run in State College and Bellefonte. Both will be on the same day, Tuesday December 18th. Bob Shafer will be heading up the Bellefonte Holiday Lights Run will be a 2-5 mile run around historic Bellefonte. Runners are encouraged to bring a Christmas Wish List item for Pets Come First. Marty Mazur will lead the Jingle Bell Run along the West side of State College. The run will end up at Marty’s house for cookies and adult refreshments and then continue at Hi-way West. Runners are welcome to bring cash or check for the State College Food Bank. Tara Murray will lead a 5 mile Tuesday December 11th at 6 pm from Happy Valley Brewing Company. Marty Klancher said the 2019 Indoor Track Series will begin January 12th 2019. Marty will have more details when it’s available on our website.
Jamie Wright spoke about the Marathon for Medicine team. There will be a kick off meeting in early January. The date will be announced soon. Please check the NVRC website and look for an email from Jamie for more details soon. Money raised from your trail, half or full marathons are for The Centre for Volunteers in Medicine. CVIM is a free clinic providing medical and dental care to individuals living or working in Centre County who lack insurance coverage. Many patients earn too much to qualify for Medicaid yet earn too little for the Affordable Care Act mandates to apply. CVIM offers additional services that include Medication Assistance and Case Management Service to aid our patients finding other forms of assistance to ease their burdens. The funds raised through the Marathoners for Medicine event are critical to the existence of CVIM, as CVIM is not government funded and must raise 100% of operational expenses through donations, grants and events.

Paula Jech brought two photos from 2006 and 2007 of the CVIM Boston Marathon Challenge teams. They both have Sue and Joe Paterno in the photo and the 2007 photo was signed by Joe and Sue Paterno.

Katrina D’Anca, the Nittany Valley Half Marathon Race Director, spoke about the success of this year’s half marathon which gained 34% increase of participants from last year. Katrina and Erika Christiansen shared stories about the addition of walkers, the hill challenge, additional hydration and runners aide station, Rock Road being closed from 10:00 am – 12: 00 pm and some interesting stories about picking up the last runners on the course.
