April 11, 2009 Twenty-six runners showed on a shivery, misting upper-30s morning for this exquisite run up Laurel Run Road and down to Whipple Dam. The rain was dissipating and soon rolled off to leave only a light overcast and breeze. Lance Bland was the first to reach the crest of the hill at mile 3.2, but in the long run Bob Radzwich had the most throttle and powered first into the beach parking lot. Anna Kobb let the scenery carry her in first for the women, snipping 10 seconds off the course record set last year by Martha Nelson. The average age was just a shade over 40, perhaps suggesting the maturity or senility factor that selects runners for this one. At Whipple, the sun was breaking through and the weather had warmed a little. Special thanks to Mike Philippe for water and markings setup, timing and treats (whole wheat banana-raisin walnuts-or-not bread - you missed it, Pam), Michelle Christensen for waiver gathering and timing, Joe Bollinger for water station oversight. There were more than enough vehicles to get everyone back to Tussey – this is the way to do it! Six pairs of shoes were collected for Soles4Souls program. Each run of the series will accept gently used shoes of all types. The next Teaser on May 9, the Sidewinder 10K, features age- and gender-graded results, a pre-race tour of the course via school bus en route to the start, optional dip in Whipple Lake, and door prizes.
