Mostly clear skies greeted runners on Academy Street for the start. It was late June, but the heat did not turn up significantly until later in the day.

This year’s event saw runners from age 9 to 87 plus several walkers take part on this early morning tour of the Village of Boalsburg.

Centre Hall’s Colton Sands set a strong pace and finished just 6 seconds ahead of last year’s winner, Patrick Singletary, of State College. Jim Figler, of Hamburg, NY, was third.

The women’s race went to Emma Federinko, of Spring Mills, with Marlee Kwasnica and Maria Garlowich, both of State College, in second and third, respectively.

Four master’s runners, three of them over 50, finished in the top ten.

On the young side, Lillyanna Smith, 9, of Centre Hall, turned in an impressive time of 26:12. That age was also represented well on the men’s side by Carter Cummings, of Curwensville.

In the uppermost age category represented, 80-89, Carl Miller and Arnold Gasche sache’d right through it.

Several runners improved their times from last year, including Jim Figler (-1 sec), Mark Brady (-2 sec), Kathleen Shupenko (-52 sec), and Carl Miller (- 3 min+).

The post-race pancake breakfast was well received by the hungry crowd, featuring piping hot hotcakes nimbly flipped by veteran chefs Lance and Carol Bland and Jim Myers. Numerous drawing prizes were handed out, donated by area businesses, including many shops located near the race course in Boalsburg: A Basket Full, Bella di Vita, De-Stress Station, Elaine’s, Mount Nittany Winery, Portfolio - A Salon, Riley on Main, Seven Mountains Wine Cellars, and Your Perfect Fit. Additional donors included Rapid Transit Sportswear, Appalachian Outdoors, Wegmans, Giant Foods, Weis Markets, Happy Valley Refreshments, and the Lions Community Hall.

Many thanks to Judd and Davis Michael, Ann Van Kuren and Evan Casper for assistance with hall setup and packet prep. Thanks to Davis for race day registration, serving the runners at the water station, and cleanup. A big thank-you to Barry Sands for finish line photos.
