PSU Multi-Sport Facility Staggers Print E-mail

The chart below gives the number of laps you need to run to get certain distances in each lane on Penn State's Multi-Sport Facility/Horace Ashenfelter III indoor track (between the Bryce Jordan Center and the outdoor track). They are based on a 42 inch lane width. The length of stagger per lap per lane is 2*pi*(42in) = 263.9 in ~ 22 ft. As an example, if you want to run 800 meters in lane 5, you need to run 3.53 laps, so your stagger is just under half a lap. You start just before the half-lap mark, run to the finish line, and then do 3 more laps to get your 800 meters.

NOTE: Lane 6 on the indoor track is almost exactly the same length as the jogging track above the bleachers in Rec Hall: about 6.85 laps per mile.
