Wahoo Beginners Group

The Wahoo Beginners group wants to encourage beginners to start running, stick with it, set some goals, and have fun all the while. The runs are for all-comers and all abilities, whether you're a total novice or a long time runner that wants a non-competitive workout with a great group of people! Our group got its name when Jerry Steffy, a past group leader, mistakenly referred to the old Yahoo Discussion Group as the "Wahoo Group!"

The Beginners group is currently dormant. We're looking for a leader to organize group runs and encourage beginner runners. If you're interested, email Marty Mazur at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Wahoo Beginners Running Group: Number 9

June 16, 2015

We did a lovely 3 miles at 13:00ish pace.  It was a lovely night and we're making great social connections! One person refused the picture and one person came right after! Nine seems to be our number right now, but it's a different nine every time, so the group is sure to coalesce.

Wahoo Beginners Running Group: Sassy Seven

July 27, 2015

We had a great run yesterday. Seven people showed up...we ran a little over 3.5 miles (although Adam was sure to remind me that he ran more because he was running circles around us !) and the picture I took was trying to capture one member that has been working toward a goal. This was her reaching it...a bit of a "Rocky" moment for her. I'm really pleased at what this group is doing for people's motivation and stamina. Having repeated runs at the same park is helping people set realistic goals and track personal records. I don't quite have the time to write a cute and funny email like the other runners, but perhaps someday I'll find the time!

Wahoo Beginners Running Group: Starting Up Again

June 9, 2015

Renee Kotch and the Wahoo Beginners Group had a new beginning. Nine runners showed up at Tudek Park for a couple of easy miles. The consensus so far has been to try and keep a steady 11:30ish minutes per mile pace. People seem to like the ability to stop after 1-2 loops or turn around when they feel they're at their halfway point. Renne is trying to be supportive of everyone's abilities. It was a lovely day!

To meet up with Renee and the group, go to the Wahoo Beginners Running group page and check out the calendar of upcoming runs.
