2008 Nittany Valley Running Club Indoor Mile #3
Friday, January 25, 2008
by Marty Mazur

The third NVRC Indoor Mile of the season saw the biggest turnout and the fastest field yet. There were 29 runners. The first heat may have been our fastest overall heat ever. All 15 runners went under 5:30, and 10 of those were under 5 flat. Dave Moore won handily in 4:29.09. He was followed by Brian Mcnally in 4:36.92 and Ben Huey in 4:39.89. The fastest Masters runner was again Greg Dillon, who yet again shaved some time off his previous mark, crossing the finish line in 4:49.59. In probably the closest Indoor Mile finish ever, Dillon nipped Andy Cunningham by 0.01 seconds.

Boyd Brumbaugh took the second heat in 5:14.63, followed closely by Luke St. Clair, who carves huge chunks off his time from week to week. St. Clair finished in 5:16.41, an improvement of 37 seconds since Indoor Mile #1. Tim Spigelmyer was third in 5:27.90. A few women turned out to challenge absent Tara Murray's solo dominance of the female ranks. Martha Nelson cranked through her first Indoor Mile in two years in 5:32.96. Kelsey Markham was second among the females in 5:46.58, and Pam Scott was third in 6:47.56. Marty Mazur did the honors of pacing a large group through a sub-3 minute half-mile, but quickly faded to finish in 6:17.01. Several of the runners who passed Mazur ended up under 6 minutes, including Michael Goldfine, Dan Guss, and Marty Klanchar.

There was a delay at the start of the Meet so the 3000 meter run, which had 6 entrants, had to be scrubbed due to a tight schedule. The 3000 meter run will go on next week, along with our Predicted Time Contest.
