- Written by Mike Casper Mike Casper
Race director Mike Casper presented a check to CVIM representatives on Tuesday evening at the bimonthly meeting of the Nittany Valley Running Club at Hi-Way Pizza, 428 Westerly Parkway, in State College. Top individual and team fundraisers were also recognized. Photos of the presentations can be seen at the meeting minutes.
Centre Volunteers in Medicine serves the health and wellness needs of qualifying medically uninsured Centre County residents and their families. “We are thrilled at the enthusiastic support shown by participants of the Mountainback race,” said Executive Director Kristen Houser. “CVIM depends on support from community organizations and events such as the Mountainback to provide medical and dental care to our uninsured neighbors in Centre County.” A number of the agency’s staff, volunteers and board members volunteered or took part in the event.
Sponsors of the race included the Central Pennsylvania Convention and Visitors Bureau, Steve Bodner and Tom Cali of RE/MAX Centre Realty, Anthony G. DeBoef Esq., Appalachian Outdoors, The Bicycle Shop, The Hartman Agency, McClarren Financial Advisors, Nittany Valley Running Club, The North Face, The Resident Experts, Restek Corporation, The Sign Stop, and Tussey Mountain Family Fun Center.
Bellefonte Road Raider Saturday Run
The Bellefonte Road Raiders was out running on this beautiful Saturday morning in Bellefonte. In attendance we had Dennis McDowell, Christine Rice (our fearless leader), Rachel, Jessica Savrock. (from the Tuesday night group) and Denise Weaver. We would like to welcome a newcomer in town Rachel from New Jersey, who will be a graduate student attending Penn State this fall. The group gracefully headed out from the Bellefonte Middle School to run a 4 mile out and back from Lutz Lane. Christine & Denise took it slower to catch up on important Road Raider business and there was one point where Christine had to use the "Woolly Rag" on Denise to get her moving this morning and it stung and made her cry! Who said that handkerchiefs don't hurt when they are used as a "Woolly Rag"!
We all had a great time this morning and then afterwards Jessica & Denise graciously looking for more punishment hit the streets again to run another 3 miles which was the Faith Center 5k course. Jessica did a SUPER JOB on the hills that is part of the course even though her quads were screaming at her, but she pushed on. After that nice 3 mile loop Denise said good-bye to Jessica and once again like a brave warrior hit the pavement again to run the 4 mile Herbie's Hometown Loop so she could get in her 11 mile long run that she desperately needed for her marathon training. Everyone did a GREAT JOB this morning and we hope to see more of you Road Raiders and other fellow runners out there in the upcoming Saturdays in Bellefonte. Happy Running!
Wednesday Bellefonte Run
- Written by Denise Weaver Denise Weaver
We had a great turnout last night in Bellefonte! In attendance there was Bob & Christine & Kellie R., Lynn C., Michelle C., Kim G. and Denise W. The plan was to run a easy 30 min. run, but it ended up being a 6 + mile loop from Christine's place out Airport Rd. to Weaver Hill then up Blanchard St.! Michelle, Lynn, Kim and Kellie opted to go shorter. Christine & Denise kept going with Bob on the bike riding along side of them :) BIG THANKS BOB! The girls did such a GREAT JOB and they never stopped to walk! Christine and Denise did Indians running up the Blanchard St. hills! It was a struggle but we did it!! Christine did a SUPER job running that tough loop!
