Summer All-Comers Meets

There are two sets of weekly All-Comer's track meets, one put on by the NVRC, the other run by Centre Region Parks and Recreation for younger children. Both series are low-key community events that attract a range of participants. There are worse ways to spend a summer evening! There is no charge to participate.

Centre Region Parks and Recration Youth Track Meets. These meets do not happen every year. They have been WEDNESDAY EVNINGS from late June through  late July. They are usually run at the State College High School track, which is on the south side of Westerly Parkway, behind the High School South Building. The meets are for boys and girls ages 5-12. The meets begin at 5:45 PM and held weather permitting. Events are free of charge. In case of rain, call 231-3071 for cancellation info. Parents and spectators are often enlisted to help time and judge events, which include Softball Toss, Long Jump, 50 Meter Dash, 100 Meter Dash, 200 Meter Run, and 1 Mile Run (11 &12 years only) . NVRC All-Comer's Races. The Nittany Valley Running Club has hosted All-Comer outdoor summer track meets for adults off and on over the years. We haven't had any in several years, but there's always talk of starting them up. Let us know if you're interested in helping out! Here are some historical resuls.

Club Sponsored Races

The Nittany Valley Running Club sponsors many of the local races helping with volunteers, timing, race directing, and sometimes financially with grants.

NVRC Herbie's Home "Town Loop"

Jeremy Herbstritt was a local runner, a Bellefonte High School and Penn State grad, who died in the Virginia Tech shootings on April 16, 2007. In May 2007, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Penn State and the Nittany Valley Running Club put on a 5K race/walk to honor Jeremy's memory. The event, organized on short notice, was very successful, attracting over 400 participants. The race became a regular event for a time.

That same year, a commemorative race Herbie's Home "Town Loop" was started in Bellefonte. This race traversed one of Jeremy's favorite running routes in town, but also included other events such as bike rides, canoing, etc. For a time, both the Herbstritt Memorial 5K and the Herbie's event were put on at different times of the year. In 2014, the Jeremy Herbstritt Memorial 5K was folded into the Herbie's event.

Herbie's Home "Town Loop" is a 4 mile run through Bellefonte. It's a scenic, but hilly course.

The 2023 race will be held on Saturday, August 5, at 8:30 AM.

Funds raised from this year’s HHTL will benefit VTVCare and a local family (Popovitch) in need.

VTVCare is an endowment fund created by the VTV Family Outreach Foundation designed to provide financial assistance to mass shooting survivors nationwide to help cover long-term trauma-related medical and mental health care expenses that insurance and other governmental programs do not cover. For more information on VTVCare, please visit

On May 21, 2023, 19 year old, Haley Popovitch, Bellefonte, suffered severe 3rd degree burns over 50-60% of her body after tripping and falling into a fire pit at her home. She was life flighted to Lehigh Valley Burn Center for extensive treatments. Your donations will help her family cover medical treatments and recovery bills. Haley will have a long journey ahead of her but we are optimistic of her pushing through this very difficult time.

ENTRY FEES: $25 per individual event if postmarked by August 01, 2023. $30 per thereafter, and on race day.

T-shirts will be guaranteed to the first 100 entrants.
