Minutes of the February 7th 2017 Meeting of the NVRC
Board Meeting
Club officers present: Bob Shafer (president), Dave Eggler (treasurer), Marty Mazur (communications director), Marty Klanchar (membership director), Erika Christiansen (secretary). Others present: Cheryl Capone, Jake Clements, Katrina D'Anca, Tara Murray, Deloris Beobeck.
The officers listened to Katrina D'Anca, the Race Director for the NVHM talk about some possible changes to the two loops. There were some suggestions from the officers and Katrina will look into Trout Road and Houserville area. She will report back.
Cheryl Capone pitched her idea for the free Spring training series at Tudek Park. Cheryl and Christine Dorman will teach and lead runners on topics/challenges that runners face, with the focus on instruction and proper technique. The officers were excited about this training and have approved this to be a NVRC event. She will report back at the April meeting with dates for the training. In depth details about the training will be posted then.
Deloris Beobeck and Tara Murray spoke about the Give 'Em 5 Race. This will be on Sunday October 29th. This will be a 5 mile and 5k run / walk event. They are working with the Veterans Assistance Fund and are looking for volunteers. Print outs are being worked on. David Eggler will time the race.
Bob Shafer reported there will be a total of 21 races for the Race Series. They are looking to add some trail races.
Membership Meeting

Others present: Cheryl Capone, Jake and Sarah Clements (with family), Tara Murray, Deloris Beobeck, Mike Martin (with family), Mike Zimmerman, Seth Senior, Rev. Carl Miller, John Iceland, David Lloyd, Kevin Ermol, Ketih Henderson, Jim and Liz Kisenwether and Monica and Bill Mahoney.
Liz Kisenwether reported on the 5k Cross Country Race to be held at the Boalsburg Military Museum June 10. This will be a fund raiser for the the Discovery Space and KidTech. This race is intended to be a family and youth-friendly race. NVRC will support this race.
Tara Murray spoke about the Spring Marathon and Half Marathons for Centre Volunteers in Medicine Marathons for Medicine Fundraiser. She gave a list of races and asked for more volunteers.
Marty Mazur spoke about the suggestion, by Judd Michael, to offer a donation to the Penn State Track and Fieldas a way of getting Penn State athletics to agree to allow NVRC members to have use of the outdoor track. There will be more meetings to discuss this suggestion.
Marty Klancher gave an update on the Indoor Mile Series. These were well attended by the NVRC, over 40 runners at each meet. Marty also noted that the Indoor Miles have been a significant driver for membership. New members sign up for the Club in order to participate in the Series, and continuing members tend to renew at the meets as well.
