Jeremy Herbstritt Memorial 5K

This evening race on campus will take place on the anniversary of the Virginia Tech shooting on April 16. Jeremy Herbstritt, a Bellefonte and Penn State alum, was killed in the shooting. The race needs volunteers, especially at registration and course marshals. Contact Mike Casper (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) or Jen Herbstritt (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) if interested. Proceeds from the race will go to families of victims of the Sandy Hook school shooting. This will be the last year for this race, and the focus going forward will be on the Herbie's Home Town Loop in Bellefonte (August 17). The Bellefonte race will include a 4 mile run, 14 mile bike ride, and new this year, a 10 mile run.

Kim Gasper coordinates a fundraiser with students at Bellefonte for CVIM in conjunction with Marathoners for Medicine. The event will be on May 9 and everyone is encouraged to come support the kids.

The Tussey Mountainback is one of the premiere races in the area, serving as the USA 50 Mile Championships and attracting hundreds of relay runners. Two people are needed to manage the database – one technical person who can program Access and one data entry person. Contact Mike Casper if interested.

Jayson Jackson will coordinate a Thanksgiving race benefitting running programs at St. Joseph's Catholic Academy in Boalsburg. They had 7 kids in the track program the first year and grew to 20 this year. The race proceeds will benefit a growing program. The NVRC has supported St. Joseph's runners at regional competitions, and Jayson thanked the club. The race will take place in Boalsburg and members present at the meeting voted to make it a club race.

Carl Miller passed around a brochure about his son's new kayaking company in Hershey, Cocoa Kayaks.

Next meeting: June 4, 2013
