The NVRC puts on several races a year. But there are dozens of races in the Centre Region every year put on by organizations or individuals, usually for some charitable cause. The NVRC won't put your race on for you, but we can help in several ways: advice, free advertisement (on our Calendar), and race timing. If you're thinking of putting on a race, the information below will get you started.
The first three pages below are essential to novice race directors:
- A Race Director's Primer: How To Direct A Race In The State College Area.
- Special information for Directors of on-campus races.
- Race timing: You'll want to do this right.
- Race Directors' quick checklist (reprinted from Cool Running). Full of general tips for directing a successful race.
Read the Race Director's Primer, the Club Race Timing Policy, and the information for Directors of on-campus races if it pertains to your race. Then contact Marty Mazur at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with questions. If you are planning a race in central Pennsylvania -- even if you don't have the applications ready and the date is tentative -- please give us a heads-up as early as possible and submit an event for our club's race calendar. Hopefully, we can reduce the number of local races scheduled for the same day. We also encourage you send us a digital version of your race application to put on our website, or if you have your own race website, the address so that we can link to it.
Also, you can join the Yahoo! Discussion Group NVRC, to get and/or spread the early buzz on upcoming races. You don't need to be a Nittany Valley Running Club member to join the Discussion Group.
