Timing by the Nittany Valley Running Club

It was very nice late summer morning for the 2nd Annual NVRC/PSU Cross Country Club Labor Day Races. The temperature and humidty were a little higher than they were for last year’s inaugural event. And turnout was down, too, but everyone came ready to run. The Penn Start Cross-Country Club had a great showing again, both for runners and race volunteers. The young runners took all the top finishes in the 5K, with Garrett Campbell finishing first among males in 15:42 (Steve Nalepa was only 4 seconds back), and Jodi Patterson finishing first among females in 18:36. Patterson had taken last year’s victory, and improved her time this year by over 30 seconds! 

 

Cam Mallett won the 5 Miler in 28:47. Amy Puleo took the top female slot in 30:15, narrowly edging Liz Wright.

 

Several first-time races made the show today. The youngest finisher, Anna Miller, age 10, was not intimidated by all the college runners and finished her first 5K in a very nice time of 26:11. And Jose Ponte, new to running, came across the finish of the 5 Miler in 46:08. It was the longest distance he’d ever run!
